Avery Collins, Artist Staff and Founder of Rhymez & Rhythmz

When staff artist Avery Collins first pitched the idea for an open mic series in 2018, he had a simple but powerful vision: create a space where artists could show up as they are and share their truth. That vision became Rhymez & Rhythm Open Mic Night, Rhythm Visions' signature performance series—and it quickly became something no one could have predicted.

By the time the pandemic shifted the world online, Rhymez & Rhythmz had already built a loyal following. But it was during those months of isolation that the series found its true reach. What began as a local gathering transformed into a virtual stage drawing performers from across the United States and around the globe. Poets, singers, spoken word artists, and musicians logged in from different time zones, different backgrounds, all united by the same desire to be seen and heard.

Today, Rhymez & Rhythmz stands as one of Rhythm Visions' most enduring programs, a testament to what happens when an artist is trusted to lead. As we celebrate 30 years of empowering creative voices, we honor Avery Collins for building a platform that continues to elevate artists from our community and beyond.
